| Pros: Built-in viewer, memory slot (SD). Easy to use. |
Cons: Putting slides or film in the carriers and getting them aligned properly prior to closing the carrier cover can be tricky. Really old 35mm slides (which were thicker in the earlier years) don't fit properly. I had to remove the film from the slide to scan those pictures. Color accuracy is only fair. It's good enough for what I'm doing (capturing 50 year old 35 mm family slides before discarding them). The color on the digitized images has to be adjusted in most cases anyway, because the colors have drifted over the years. |
Other Thoughts: There's a fair amount of slop in the carrier when it's in the scanner. That's not necessarily a negative; I use it to move the carrier slightly left or right to center the subjects in the viewer screen.
If you're looking for high-accuracy color scanning, this might not be the product for you. But for casual scanning it's fine. |

| Pros: Pleasing design. Simple operation. No software required. The option of adding external memory. Slides fit snugly in the carriers. The scanner copies a slide in less than five seconds. Images can be erased from memory selectively or all at once. Scanned images upload rapidly. |
| Cons: Resultant images are off-color, muddy, have little color depth and are somewhat cropped. The viewer is small and grainy.Opening a slide carrier is a fingernail buster. Some ergonomic engineering is needed there. Or a tool. The carrier does not seat firmly enough in the scanner. Especially the two end positions. It should snap into place. |
| Other Thoughts: I am getting old and feel the need to copy my slides to disc. I have ordered the VuePoint 35mm scanner. When it gets here, I will return the least desirable of the two devices. Both of them, I hope not. I would give this scanner five stars for concept and design but the images are what I bought it for. Two stars might be too many. I really wanted this thing to work! |
