LCD PC Power Supply Tester - Item SKU: 115 0154
With this LCD-equipped 12V ATX power supply tester, you'll learn more about your computer's power supply than you ever thought you could. First, test every 3.3-, 5- and 12-volt rail to see if all the wires on the 20- or 24-pin supply are functioning properly. Then test all the power supply's peripheral connectors: the tester includes ports for Molex, SATA, P4, PCI-e and FDD power connectors. The built-in LCD shows PG ("power good") signals and displays how much voltage is passing through each connector.

be careful when purchasing this tester

Pros:
most readings are accurate to with in 1 volt as others have stated, neat toy.
Cons:
the tester will not work for some power supplies, i attempted to test it on a mini tower by HP and the power supply has a mini-24 pin power supply connector it does not fit any of the connector ports, i asked the technician about this and was told i may need to purchase an adapter which i did but it still did not test correctly. i made the mistake in believing the power supply was defective i purchased another one and when i checked it i got the same result.
Other Thoughts:
just make sure you are not intending to use this on a mini 24 pin connector, as for other things to look out for i will keep looking.

Good devise, bad documentation

Pros:
This is a small and compact devise making it easy to carry and store. It will show you several functions at once.
Cons:
This thing comes with virtually no documentation. On the retail rack card it comes packaged in, is a “quick start” guide of 5 bullet points. On the reverse of the card is a list of the devise’s features in English and Spanish. There is also a voltage table of what is considered out of range for the tester. That’s it. The problem enters when you look at the display; There are three (3) measurements listed as 12v. So which one is which? I learned more about this tester from ‘tommyb’ than I did from any instructions.
Other Thoughts:
I tested three Dell power supplies. All three showed “LL” (low) on 12v2. Reading tommyb’s review I surmised that must be the test for the 4 or 8 pin supplemental connector, as I did not have anything attached there. I almost threw out the three power supplies because of this. I guess you get what you pay for. If you want instructions you’ll have to buy a better tester. Otherwise, this is a simple and quick “checker”.

A better tester

Pros:
accurate power readings to .1 volt, tests both 20 and 24 pin motherboard connectors, tests most other power supply connectors (4, 6, 8 pin and molex, SATA, and floppy)
Cons:
the motherboard connector must be attached for the other connectors to be tested, annoying warning tone when the 4 or 8 pin supplemental connector is not attached, shuts itself down if out of range, molex, SATA, and floppy power not metered but only indicated by lights, need to keep power button held down to get a reading. Minor annoyances, no deal breakers.
Other Thoughts:
I used a generic power tester for years. It indicated by lights only, and was not entirely reliable. The tester would light on some power supplies that would not boot a computer, which indicated to me that there was some power on those circuits, but probably too low. This tester lets me be sure of my power supplies. A definite upgrade from the generic "lights on/off" testers.
